Cockspur Island Lighthouse
Near Savannah, Georgia

The Cockspur Island Lighthouse is 12 miles east of Savannah, Georgia. It is believed to have first been constructed in the late 1830s by John Norris. Norris is famous for being the designer of several architecturally important buildings in Savannah.
The lighthouse originally was visible from sea at a distance of approximately 9 miles. But after construction, the original lighthouse didn't last long. It was destroyed in 1854 by a hurricane.
The Cockspur Island Lighthouse is located near Fort Pulaski.
